Down with the flu

December 29, 2008

Hello everyone!  I’ve been ill since the 26th of December, and managed to pull through a wedding shoot on the 27th.  Should you require any assistance on your enquiries, please give me some time to answer your emails or sms, since i’ll be spending as much time in bed as possible.  I need to gear up for my next gig on January 4th!

At the same time, there are plenty of updates on wedding day shoots that I’ve been doing since September, and these will be posted up once the albums are done.

I wish everyone a wonderful 2009 ahead!

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY BEAR!

Author: Amos
November 11, 2008

Today marks the 3rd year of my marriage to Wendy aka. Bear.

Interesting stream of events yesterday led up to a premature anniversary dinner for the both of us. I was having a smoke with my buddy upstairs, Julian, when I suddenly felt the need to confirm what the date was.

“Oh…11th.”, said Julian.
“F#%$^&! It’s my anniversary today!”, exclaimed Amos.

So i stubbed out the ciggy and went back home to make reservations at Mortons, for a sumptuous feast of a chilled seafood platter for two, one 48 ounce Porterhouse, french beans, a gigantic Idaho potato, and on the house – an oh-so-yummy chocolate fudge cake with Vanilla goodness on the side. Wendy and I kept snickering everytime one of the staff came by to congratulate us on our third anniversary…I wonder if they thought we were smoking the right stuff or not. Hehe.

BURP!

We’re both thinking of doing a post-wedding shoot for ourselves, and I’ve yet to come up with a solid plan. Dino says the whole lot of us should take a vacation somewhere, and just do the shoot wherever. Sounds good, but I need to find someone to take the photographs for us. Think Dino just kindly volunteered his videography services. HEEEHEEEHEEE.

So, this year will go down in history as the first year we’ve celebrated our anniversary on another day. I thought it was great, since Wendy wasn’t expecting anything, so it made a nice surprise. I admit that although we did talk about our upcoming 3rd anniversary sometime back, we’ve both been terribly busy these days. Wendy has to deal with the economic crisis, while I’ve got never-ending photo albums to produce! It’s all good though…she realizes that I’m becoming a forgetful old fart.

Note to self: Don’t check dates with Julian in future. HAHAHAHAAHAHA!

Sometimes, the right decisions are not the easiest to make. Find comfort that although it may seem as if we’re all alone in making those decisions, only time will reveal the whispered truth.

“In a world that has grown more complicated, more fierce in the demands made upon our hearts and pocket books, there is one easy, free gift left. The power of touch. Don’t turn away from the elderly, disabled, terminally ill or long term care residents because their needs seem beyond your ability to give. The one thing they need the most is the most simple, yet profound gift you have to give. Your kind hand holding theirs and a hug from your heart.

The gift of touch is the most powerful healing you can offer another, and it is the most powerful healing you can give yourself. Give generously and watch yourself grow rich in what matters the most. Hug often, hug well…I embrace your spirit.”

Kathleen Keating Schloessinger

As a wedding photojournalist, it’s always been my personal goal to let my images speak. Sure, you can take a picture of two people hugging and all, but it doesn’t end there.
What if you could feel the hug? What if you could feel the hug in the lips, the hands, the cheeks and the eyes? Now if only everyone could see things this way.

Peiming & Linda’s ROM

I attended PM and Linda’s ROM as a guest today, and was surprised how small the solemnization rooms have become. In any case, I think they’re encouraging folks to solemnize their marriage off-site these days, so it only makes more sense.

My only gripe about the rooms is how they name them these days…. REGISTRY OFFICE. That’s just weird. Kinda takes the feel out of the whole process.

If Music Be The Food For Love, Play On.

In Shakespeare’s The Twelfth Night, Orsino muses that an excess of music might cure his obsession with Countess Olivia, in the way that eating too much removes one’s appetite for food.
Music plays an important part in Shakespeare’s plays and is often used to carry the plot. It’s reasonable to surmise that he did believe it to be ‘the food of love’.

Joe & Annette met during their Polytoechnic days, romancing away on Joe’s scooter and living their love for music together. I had the rare opportunity of visiting the Blue Room, a HDB bedroom converted into a really cosy jamming studio for about 5 folks.

It was so cosy that Joe and I were rubbing butts moving around in it…but i digress.

Perhaps the most important aspect of a relationship, is the ability for one to hold onto the past and the other to embrace the future.

I was just telling Joe the other day that I no longer dwell on what could have been, because I don’t know what would have become of me had I done things differently in the past. What I do know, is that I’ve got Wendy in this lifetime. If it took all those bad decisions in the past for me to be with Wendy now, then so be it.

Nicholas & Joobee’s Wedding Day

September 21, 2008

I did Nicholas & Joobee’s pre-wedding shoot some time back, and this time round, I was covering their wedding day as well. Chijmes Hall brings back great memories for me as well, since Wendy and I got hitched in that very same place on November 11th, 2005…standing at that very same spot.

Yes Joobee, hehe…I got it right this time.

I think the majority of ACS boys have a problem with Chinese names, and I must confess that it isn’t always easy remembering them. I was kinda relieved when Joobee sent me an email one day and signed off as “Jube”. That spelt “jubilation” for me I tell ya! Ok ok…that was just corny. I leave you with some of my favorite images from their wedding day.

Khai Imm & Lawrence

September has been a crazy month for me. Fully booked for weddings, and booked for pre-wedding shoots during the week, it’s been an endless supply of wedding related photographs for me to edit. The couples who have done their pre-wedding shoot early will most certainly start hanging pig heads on my door soon (right Wilson), but I’m sure you guys understand that it’s all part of managing the workload. So guys, thanks so much for being patient. For those of you who are overseas right now, have a great time! Think of me slogging away here for you, and I’m sure you will! JUST KIDDING!

Who’s on for drinks tonight?! It’s Friday!

Anyway, after sweating like a pig through a very hot day, getting cut from barnacles on some stupid rocks while I was concentrating on getting the right shot and watching Khai Imm get blown around in the wind like a sail….here are some of my favorite shots.

Just completed another 2 pieces of fine art photography done for Jimmy and Rebecca’s shoot, and I’m loving the first piece for the dramatic feel of the entire image. I’ve already set the dimensions, so the first image is gonna be the centrefold for the wedding album! Weeeeeeeeeeeeee!
